If you are thinking of doing a distance learning course with us this page may answer some of the things you're thinking about. Take a look...

How does distance learning work?
We supply the course literature in easy to use workbooks, you then study at your own leisure at home or work - wherever and whenever it suits you.

When can I start the course?
You can start the course any time of the year, we do not have fixed enrolment dates.

How long do the courses take?
Our short courses usually take around 4 - 8 months to complete but there is no pressure and you are free to study at your own pace.

If I am not in a classroom will I get any tutor support?
Yes, even though they are self study courses you will be fully supported by a qualified tutor by phone, email or post.
You will also have access to our Study Buddies Online Community - a safe place for all our learners to share their experiences and gain extra support.

Do I need the internet to complete my course?
It’s entirely up to you! You can word process or handwrite your work and then send it to your tutor by email or post. We aim to be as flexible as possible. However it may be useful to have access to the internet for any research tasks in your workbooks, if you cannot access the internet at home or work you can access it in a public library, usually for no cost.

Can I pay by instalments?
Yes, you can pay by interest free monthly instalments spread over 4 months.

What if I am not completely happy with my course?
Just let us know and return the materials in an unused condition within 30 days to qualify for a refund, alternatively you can ask us about changing onto another course.

Do I have to buy any other materials?
No, the courses are self contained. however it is always good to carry out extra reading from textbooks or the internet, and in each workbook you will have a list of recommended reading for your course – but it is not essential.

How is the course assessed?
You will have tasks to complete throughout your workbooks which your tutor will mark and give feedback. Then at the end of each workbook you will receive a written assessment to be completed and sent to your tutor for marking. If you successfully complete all assessment papers you will pass your course.

Will I get a certificate once I have passed my course?
Yes, you will receive a certificate from us detailing your achievement in the course you have undertaken. You can then use this to demonstrate your new skills and knowledge, as well as your commitment to self-development, to potential employers, colleges and universities.

Can I get any careers advice or information on which course I should progress onto?
Yes. You should discuss this with your tutor nearer the end of your course. They can assist you in finding careers information and learning opportunities, and can put you in touch with a careers adviser in your area.
